In drama performances, the smoothness of scene transitions directly affects the audience's sense of immersion in the plot, and some scene transitions rely on hoisting to achieve "spatial reconstruction". This process involves the precise movement of various heavy props and backdrops: the solid wood desk scenery pieces weighing 300-800 kilograms are not only bulky, but their carved details also need to be protected from collision damage; although the hanging kerosene lamp props are relatively light in weight, there are as many as a dozen of them, and they need to maintain a uniform hanging height and angle to create the atmosphere of a night in old Shanghai; the multi-layered three-dimensional street backdrops are even more complex, with a single piece weighing more than 500 kilograms, and the gap at the joint is required to be controlled within 2 centimeters, otherwise the overall authenticity of the scene will be damaged.
The movement of these props and backdrops is not a simple displacement. Some props need to achieve a lifting height difference of 4-6 meters. For example, the chandelier in the study is lowered from a height of 3 meters to the ground for storage, and then the neon lights of the street scene are raised from under the stage to a height of 5 meters in the air; at the same time, the translation distance often exceeds 8 meters. For instance, the desk scenery pieces need to be quickly moved from the left side of the stage to the backstage storage area, and the street backdrops need to be translated from the right side to the center of the stage for splicing. All these need to be accomplished by advanced stage truss hoists.
